A Suggestion on the Management of your Stronghold

After a discussion with Uncino he has asked that I write up a little utilized trick when dealing with your stronghold.
Nothing is more irritating that mining your resources and slowly building your stockpile while saving up to level your mages or archers only to log back in and see that you’ve been raided and those precious resources are reduced. It’s enough to make you pull your hair, and on occasion attack those who’ve stole from you, even though it comes to nothing (It does not count as an arena fight and you do not earn experience points and you don’t get resources.).
A better path exists, one that had me baffled until I tried it myself and saw that it indeed works like a charm.
-
You want to encourage attack from others.
-
You do this by no longer wasting resources upgrading your ‘protection’ (Mages, Archers, Walls, etc.).
-
By encouraging attacks, this places your stronghold in a “protected” mode.
-
When in a protected mode stolen resources are taken directly from your quarry and your woodcutter’s hut.Resources are not taken from your stockpile.
-
As an example, if you have 100k of stone and 100k of wood in your stockpile. And 1k of stone in your mine and 1k of wood in your woodcutter’s hut. When you are raided and resources are stolen, the percentage stolen is from your quarry and woodcutter’s hut directly instead of your stockpile. If and enemy takes 10% while you’re in protected mode, you will lose 100 stone and 100 wood.If you are not in protected mode, you would lose 10k stone and 10k wood.
-

-
-
Because you are encouraging attacks from others, you’ll want to stop pulling resources from your mine and woodcutter’s hut. This will allow your enemies, something to steal, but it also means you no longer have to invest valuable resources into upgrading these buildings.
-
To compensate for the loss of utilizing these buildings, you will need to be selective in your raids with your soldiers.
-
Attack, Attack and Attack. Utilize your soldiers to attack your enemies to gather resources.Never use more than 4 or 5 soldiers. The object is not to make one huge killing. It’s to make a bunch of little killings. You will gather more resources with ten 1 soldier kills than one 10 soldier kill.
-
If you have an enemy that you cannot defeat with 5 soldiers, either change your opponent, wait 5 minutes and change your opponent or…sacrifice a soldier in an attack.
-
Changing opponents costs more in gold than you’d need in resources.
-
The only way to gather gold is through quests or through spins with Dr. Abawuwu. Once you’re out of quests or spins, you’ll have to spend mushrooms.
-
Resources can be gathered through attacks on enemy strongholds, or through your mines and woodcutter’s huts. This can be done multiple times while you’re waiting for your tavern quests or your spins to regenerate.
-
-
-
The other benefit of attacking enemies to gather resources as opposed to utilizing your quarries and woodcutter’s hut is that it does not count towards your maximum storage capacity.
-
The size of your fortress and your storage capacity are intertwined.
-
Increasing the size of your fortress, the size of your storage for wood and stone increases. For example; My fortress is level 10 and the amount of storage for stone is 133200 stone and 414000 wood.
-
When you max out this amount. You can no longer add resources via the quarry or woodcutter’s hut.
-
-
You can break this threshold by raiding enemies. If you are maxed out in storage and you successfully raid an enemy. The amount of stone/wood you receive is added to your storage regardless of maximum storage limits. As an example, currently my maximum stone storage is 133200.I have 177837 stone in storage. 44637 more stone than my maximum storage.
-
Because you are no longer tied to maximum storage limits you are free to spend your resources on more pressing matters and the focus towards building your stronghold can be narrowed to those buildings that you most need.
-
As an aside, the number of soldiers is more important that the level of your soldiers. You want to have more chances to attack than a small number of high level soldiers.
-
What this means is that you don’t have to spend resources upgrading the smithy.
-
It also means you don’t have to spend resources upgrading your soldiers, mages and archers.
